LICArtists, Inc., and Atlantic Gallery have much in common: both are artist-run, and share a mission of supporting the creative freedom and careers of their independent artist-members. LICArtists, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) arts advocacy organization, founded in 1985 by painter Margret Dreikausen. It launched the Annual Open Studios tradition in Queens in 1985, and in 2015 celebrates its 30th anniversary in service to the artists and communities of Queens.
Atlantic Gallery was founded in 1974 in Brooklyn as an artists' cooperative. In 1979 it moved to SoHo, then to Chelsea in 2007, and in 2012 it opened a new gallery in the Landmark Arts Building at the High Line. Its current gallery was designed by mixed-media artist and interior designer Carol Crawford, a member of both LICARTISTS INC. and Atlantic Gallery, and the organizer of this exhibition.
The artists in OVER THE BRIDGE include painters, sculptors and graphic artists, all of whom have their studios and residences in Queens: Linda Arnold, Virginia Asman, Michele Bonelli, Yanka Cantor, Ann Cofta, Marilee Cooper, James Corporan, Carol Crawford, Salvador Espinoza, Paul Farinacci, Kathy Ferguson, Nancy Gesimondo, Tamar Hirschl, Mary Horowitz, Deborah Julian, Michele Krauss, Eric Lawrence, Alice Lipping, Stephanie Liu, Robert Lobe, Nancy Macina, Ellen Mandelbaum, Jean-Marie Guyaux, Glenn Marlowe, Kristen Martin, Jean Ostrow, Michelle O’Connell, Suzanne Pemberton, Mary Pinto, Leonora Retsas, Selva Sanjines, Claudia Schellenberg, Elinore Schnurr, Maria Spector, Max Tzinman, Marjorie Van Cura, Mark Venaglia, Masha Volkova, and William Zehngut.

7/19/12 In The Place We Live 2012, M55 Art Gallery
A group exhibition of LIC artists July 25 – August 11 2012
From the time of the Internet, the idea of community has evolved to a different meaning of the original word, but there is still a need to bring back or maintain the sense of community where people engage in human interaction.
In this show we invite artist to explore with their own creative process the meaning of community, whether is working together or alone, using technology or not, the artist is invited to experiment with the original
meaning of community and engage the public to reflect on their own.
The exhibition will celebrate and capture the talent, creativity and spirit of LIC artists in a show that explores the significance of collaboration, social interaction and the sense of community. The exhibition
will showcase the diversity of all visual arts media (2D, 3D, Video/Installation and performance artists).
There are 2 venues for the exhibition. The main gallery space will be M55 Art gallery located at the Long Island City Art Center at 44-02 23rd Street.
